TELEPHONE AID LINE KINGSTON

Do you believe listening makes a difference? BE A VOLUNTEER! Telephone Aid Line Kingston, otherwise known as TALK, is looking to the community for caring people interested in lending an ear to callers. TALK is a crisis, distress, befriending and information line. The service is anonymous, non-judgmental, and confidential. For more information, please call 531-8529 anytime and leave a message.

KINGSTON DISTRICT INFORMATION CENTRE

The Kingston District Information Centre is pleased to announce that they have over six hundred courses posted over the Internet. The Training Link Project links job listings with many towns in the area. The Interactive Training Inventory is an on-line data base of training information. The site offers one stop access to community training information. It’s free, and there are many different courses, from computers, to business, to agriculture. MOBILE CRISIS RESPONSE AND COUNSELLING SERVICE

There is a free counselling service available for families, individuals and youth.
The Mobile Crisis Response and Counselling Service offers a variety of counselling services including:
crisis intervention, co-operative parenting after separation and divorce, and help with other family related conflict issues.

Join a dedicated team who support survivors of sexual violence. Women with diverse backgrounds and life experience are encouraged to apply.

YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Youth Advisory Committee of the Community Foundation of Greater Kingston is looking for new members. If you are between the ages of 14 and 22 and are interested in making a difference for youth in our community, then you are invited to join. The Youth Advisory Committee meets twice a month to discuss goals for the year, which include making grants to youth initiatives, working with other youth groups, and participating in youth activities on the local and national level.

VOLUNTEER KINGSTON

In a recent survey, only a quarter of the students who are expected to graduate in June of this year, said they have completed their 40 hours of community work, which they have to do in order to graduate. Volunteer Kingston, in cooperation with the Limestone School Board, is opening the first student volunteer referral service at Lasalle Secondary School. Staff at the referral office will provide students with the volunteer opportunities while also being a place for organizations to find the volunteers they need.

STREETSMART

Streetsmart is here for those who don’t fit into the traditional school setting. Students may be referred by their student service department or they may come to us directly if they are not in school right now. Students aged 16-20 may register at any time through the school year.
Streetsmart provides an open and responsive environment. For more information, drop by their central downtown location at 14 Montreal Street between 10 and 4 p.m. so if you’re looking for a different way to learn, check out Streetsmart.

FRONTENAC - KINGSTON COUNCIL ON AGING

The Frontenac-Kingston Council on Aging needs you to donate your pennies. If you have a jar of change that you don’t want to roll, help the senior citizens of your community by donating them to the council on aging. You can drop off your change at the council office at 230 Brock Street between nine and four on weekdays. Even your pennies can make a huge difference.

Students Advocation for a homophobic Free Environment, also known as SAFE, meet weekly for fun, support, and political activism. The meetings are open to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered Highschool youth and their allies.

KINGSTON HUMANE SOCIETY

The Kingston Humane Society desperately needs people to provide homes for pregnant animals to give birth in and nurse their young until they are ready to be put up for adoption.
Fostering animals from the shelter is at no cost to the foster parent. All food, litter and medication if necessary will be provided.
